Emotion in Web Design

Travel-web-design-3

Emotion has been the missing ingredient in web design for much of its evolution. We have focused on usability, and design as an art. However, there is a growing consensus that emotion is one of the most important "features" in any business-to-consumer website. Why?

Emotion breathes life into web design, giving it personality and life. Since our introduction to any online business is largely through its design, it needs to convey the personality, warmth, and vigor of the real life people it represents.

Here is an interesting article on how emotion contributes to the success of travel web design. Vacation travel is an emotionally charged decision, and good web design responds to that need. A good read!

Follow Me On Pinterest!

Pinterest.com is the hot new social media site of the moment. And, it is quite a different animal the reigning social media giants. One asset that pinterest.com has to a far greater degree than all other social media sites is great web design and aesthetics. The site is very stylish, and attracts people (especially women) who value style and fashion. It is not surprising therefore that the majority of people using Pinterest are women. That's a good thing. They give Pinterest a warmth and human touch that is a welcome contrast to the rather cold, "geekie" look and feel of Facebook, Google+ and other top social media sites.

Its a great website for sharing interesting photos, graphics or other items with visual appeal. Because it engages the eye so well, you can easily spend far too much time browing. I find it a great way to share my photography with a wider audience and for web design inspiration.

Web Designer Ramblings Is Back!

Web Designer Ramblings was a popular blog from 2006 to 2010 that shared the design ideas and rambling thoughts of Don Peterson of Newark1 Web Design Portfolio & Guide. It was a very popular blog in its time, and ran on Google's Blogger platform. Like most blogs that used Bloggers FTP publishing service, it died when that service was phased out. The world has never been the same since.

Well, mourn no more my blog deprived friends. It's back! Not only is Web Designer Ramblings in the blogosphere again, it keeps the old retro Blogger look it used in those early years! Do you remember the early days of blogging when a great blog had text, a photo or two and little else? It was a simpler time, before Web 2.0. Well, I'm bringing it back to life, baby!

I took my old Blogger skin and ported it into GetSimple a modern, ultra simple CMS perfect for small blogs and web sites. I've merged an old look with a brand new engine. Do you have an interest in web design and related subjects. Then stop by Web Designer Ramblings!
